Communicating with Students
E-mail Subject line
(Send Email)
Always include your course department/number (eg.TSTD 296, CSci 174, etc.) in the subject line of your email so that your students know from which course the email was generated without having to figure it out. Also, ask your students to do the same so that you to avoid any confusion for you and for the rest of the students in the course.
Peer Review
(Discussion Boards)
Using the discussion boards for peer review can enhance the engagement level of the students with the content and with each other. Make sure that you have a finished peer-review sample posted so that students are clear about what they are expected to include in their reviews.
Reminders
(Announcements)
It is a good idea to include announcements of assignment due dates and other course deliverables. Also, keep in mind that you can add a banner to your Blackboard course and it will appear above the announcement area of the course.
Virtual Office Hours
(Lightweight Chat)
Having virtual office hours provides more flexibility for your students to get in touch with you and discuss any questions they might have about the course content. Virtual office hours can be more flexible for you since you are able to interact with your students synchronously from anywhere in the world (as long as you have Internet access).
